Well, it's been about a month, so time to post another blog. This has been a busy week for us here in the Galat household. Bryan has been wrapping up the summer program at work, which means later nights for this week. Usually I'm fine with this, but this week, feeling extremely pregnant and tired, has been exhausting. Thankfully, I've had 2 days with babysitting help to get all of my "stuff" taken care of around town. The girls have been in their second round of swim lessons and doing an even better job than the first time. They are in the same class this session, which I was unsure of, but they seem to encourage and motivate one another.
I am now 35 weeks along in this pregnancy and I've been stopped by a few women (I hope they've been sent to me by Jesus himself) in the grocery stores claiming that I won't make my due date and that Jackson will be born early. One woman even stopped me to tell me I was having a boy, asked me when my due date was (Sept.7) and proceeded to tell me that I would have the baby in August AND that she's never been wrong about these things. (Bryan wonders how that could be as she doesn't know us and can't follow up) I pray she is right and have been praying since for an August 24/25 baby as I'd like to be home to watch Riley ride the school bus on her first day of Kindergarten later that week. God's timing is perfect, I know, but can I go ahead and claim the day and cover it in prayer:)
I also had to do another fasting blood work test today for my blood sugar. The last one was well in the normal range, but I think they like to keep me on my toes and away from the Friendly's sundaes. I had about an hour of contractions last night and panicked as I have not packed a bag for the hospital or warned all of our neighbors and friends that they will be getting a call from us begging for help with our children. So, this afternoon was spent doing laundry of all things baby, pulling out all the bottles and accessories, getting out the car seat, and starting to pack a bag for the hospital.
We've been fortunate to see some great friends this summer too. We drove up to Albany, NY to see the Sommerville family. I'm so glad we had the chance to visit with them! Plus, the most talked about event this week by my children was a visit from a sweet girlfriend of mine from Atlanta. She was up visiting family in Mass. and made the effort to drive down to see us for the day! The girls had a fantastic time playing with her son and look forward to future playdates at their house over Thanksgiving week. And...Yes, Melissa, the popcorn probably wasn't the best idea, but the kids had a great time playing in it, didn't they? Where was the camera? :)
This summer has really flown by and I'm not looking forward to letting go of my oldest child as she begins Kindergarten in a few weeks. It's a bitter sweet time for me and I continue to ask myself, should I be homeschooling? I just want to hang on to her as long as possible! She's so excited to go and she's my social butterfly, so I can't be fearful, just hold her up in prayer.
Let us know what you've been up to this summer! We love each of you!

We're here!
Well, the raccoons have moved on as have the carpenter bees and ants (a scenario that happened after the raccoons, but I won't go into detail about now). So we are pest free for now. Bryan has had many thoughts about moving to a condo where someone else is in charge of repairs and upkeep after these issues. Seems ideal except for our children's growing need to be outside and just run. Speaking of running....we had a babysitter over for a few hours yesterday and she let Bob out without his leash. (I would have done the same thing because it's just a pain to keep up with him on these hot and humid days) Well, he took off and she felt so badly about it. She called her family for help, not realizing they were gone and about 40 minutes away. It all worked out in the end and Bob was brought home by a landscaper after running about a mile or so away. We were all surprised at how quickly he could get so far! We were also surprised that he wasn't found at a local restaurant, grocery store, or dumpster - his usual places of interest. So, now it's back to the leash for old Bob. Invisible fence looks better every day:)
Everyone else is doing well. Bryan is working a lot and keeping track of the summer programs at work. I am almost 32 weeks pregnant and wishing I could have this baby (healthy of course) any day that God allows. Riley is looking forward to kindergarten and attended a camp recently with other children that will be attending in the fall with her. She will do so well, I just know it. Reese is also looking forward to starting pre-k in the fall and we're anxiously awaiting her class placement to see if she'll have the same lovely set of teachers that Riley had. Reese also attended a camp recently with other 3 year olds and enjoyed it, but didn't have a lot to say about it other than she didn't like having bug spray put on and her teachers helped her too much with the craft projects. Charlie has had the easiest summer of us all (other than some bumps on the head and falls). He's enjoying exploring the outdoors and going berry-picking! This is the first summer that he "gets it" and asks to go back to get more berries every time we pass the farm! I wish I'd had my camera with me the 2nd time we went to the strawberry farm. He was a mess! The first time we'd gone, he was apprehensive and distracted by the tractor, but the second time he just sat down and feasted on the fruits of everyone elses labor! We also went blueberry picking this past weekend and he did the same thing. Basically, the girls and Bryan were filling a large box with berries and I just continued supplying Charlie with a feast of berries to enjoy:) We hope you're enjoying your summer too! Keep in touch!

Raccoons!
You would think we lived on a 20 acre farm or something instead of a quiet suburban neighborhood. We now have raccoons inhabiting a tree in our backyard (about 30-40 feet up in a hollowed out part). This freaks me out!!!! The tree is about 30 feet from our house and it overlooks an area where my children play. I saw them last night for the first time when they decided to screech at me while taking Bob out for his evening walk. Mind you, I was standing on the deck or just off of it and Bob was no where near their new home. Apparently, I was too close to them. Maybe I should have screeched back to warn them that they were too close to ME! Bryan and I counted at least 3 of them and we watched them popping in and out of the tree. Have they been there all along? Do raccoons hibernate? Why did we just find out they were there? It's not as if it's the first time I've been in the backyard. I'm calling animal control today to see what they say I have to do. Bryan thinks they'll tell us to trap the raccoons and take down the tree. A bunch of headaches and $3000 later.... oh well, as long as we don't provoke an attack in the meantime.

Milestones...

Again, way too long since I've written anything on this site. As I mentioned in a previous post, Riley turned 5 in May! I can't believe how big she has gotten compared to the sweet 1 year old I remember! Today is her pre-school graduation. I'm sure there will be tears shed by all. There's something about the transition of kindergarten that makes a lot of parents nervous, including myself. Maybe its the fact that your children are in the care and guidance of someone you don't know for part of the day, maybe its that you hope that you've taught your children well, maybe its that you just hope they cling to what you've taught and remember. I think its all of the above and so much more. Regardless, my 5 year old is ready and it's more that her mother has a hard time letting go and wishing we had more time to spend one on one.
On another note, it is starting to get HOT here! Yes, Connecticut does get pretty steamy over the summers. We are going to be away this weekend and the forecast is that on Sunday we'll see the 90 degree mark! Yikes! I wish we had central air now! Time to put in all the window units when we return home.
With summer also comes more work for Bryan. He helps manage the "summers" program at work. This is a program where about 5-6 law students experience working for the firm for a summer. I laugh a little about this because as with any job, the "best" is shown, never the worst. There is a lot of wining and dining. There is a boat cruise this week, the summers go to London for a bit. Sounds really rough, doesn't it? Where are the late nights? The squabbles over offices? The bitter feedback from a partner? Not to be found in the summer program I'm afraid.
This pregnancy has been good to me so far. I'm about 27 weeks now and feeling a lot of kicks. I'm not looking forward to the hot summer, but will continue drinking very large amounts of water to stay hydrated. I asked the doctor that I saw at my most recent appointment about a scheduled induction, since that's what happens anyway for me. She wouldn't even speak of it with me. I think I'll have to pick and choose who to ask in my visits. I will find the weakest link. It makes it that much easier to plan with other children!
There are always about 10 other things happening at our house too. This week, Riley became absurdly hysterical at the doctor's office when told she'd have to be given a shot (this has never happened before) and the kids and I all left in tears by the end of it, a mysterious animal has been robbing our "chipper-dipper" of the profits, we've planted a container garden, we're slowly being eaten by mosquitoes, Bob goes to the vet today-always a fun and expensive trip, playdates, a second round of swim classes, Beth Moore preparations, etc, etc. Please let us know what you're up to this summer (and how to distract a 5 year old from getting a shot as I think she needs one more before kindergarten!).

In loving memory....
Sadly, we lost a member of our family this week. Our 14 year old cat, Boots, passed away Sunday night. He was older, but it still came as a shock. We think his little heart couldn't keep up with his big body any longer. The girls both took the news hard and have been in mourning. We miss our dear feline friend. He was such a good cat. Reese has mentioned every day that she'd like to get another cat and name him "Boots", but he can't have claws to scratch. This is a picture of Boots and Susanna lounging and hanging out.
On a lighter note, Riley turned 5 today! We can't believe our big girl is 5! I'll share details another time of the days events.....

Turkeys, chipmunks and squirrels. Oh my!
Well, of course I feel badly for not having been on this blog to update it in about a month, but our young family does take a lot of time and energy these days. I feel exhausted most days because of the obvious, but also because I've given up my daily 1-2 cups of coffee. We had our 20 week ultrasound last week (even though I was only 19 weeks for those of you keeping track). Everything looks good and after quite some time of struggling with a shy (or stubborn) baby, we found out that we'll be welcoming another baby boy into our family! Charlie will eventually be thrilled at the idea of having a brother, I'm sure of it. Right now he's just having a hard time keeping up with his sisters and finding his place in our family. Anyway, as a result of the first ultrasound, the doctor wanted me to have a second ultrasound because she thought my amniotic fluid looked low. They sent me home with instructions to drink gallons and gallons of water, hoping that would remedy the issue. Two days later, I had a second ultrasound and the technician said that everything looked great and the levels were excellent. They scheduled one more ultrasound for mid-May to check the levels again.
Moving on..... SPRING has finally reached us in Connecticut!!!! Riley was on Spring Break from school last week and the weather was beautiful ! We are starting to see a bunch of flowers and blossoms on the trees. It's absolutely breathtaking! We have begun a bunch of projects outside as well. Last week, Riley and Reese and I planted lettuce in containers, a herb garden and several flowers around the house. We have window boxes, but I'm not sure if I really want to tackle them this year as it is our first spring in this house.
Also with spring, comes the sightings of many backyard animals in our yard. We've had deer, turkeys, and Tigger so far! We knew spring was on it's way when we saw Tigger coming through our woods! He is a Golden Retriever that lives a few streets over. He has one eye and bad hips and this time it looked as if he'd had a recent surgery or wound on his back. The girls love to see him and he comes to see us for the extra attention. He usually says hello, suns himself, then moves on to the next neighbor's house. We've also had increased activity with the backyard squirrel and chipmunk population, much to our dismay. Bryan has resorted to setting traps for the chipmunks because they are starting to burrow holes against our foundation and under our brick walkway. The bricks have started to give way, which leads to a project that we did not want this year! Unfortunately, the only trap that has worked thus far for the chippies happens to be one that results with death. The trap is not designed for squirrels though and they have been mocking the chipmunks by eating a bunch of bait. I'll post pictures of the rigging if I can remember:)
Riley had her first visit to our local elementary school this past Monday. She loved it! She, along with 9 other children, toured the school and visited with one of the kindergarten teachers for a story and sharing time. She was the most talkative, which I was a little embarrassed about, but I have no doubts she will do well adjusting to school in the Fall. I can't believe that she only has a little over a month left of pre-school and how quickly my time with her has gone by already. I'm bracing myself for the years to come. And to think, I was so overwhelmed the first 2 weeks of pre-school that I had almost pulled her out! She has been a joy in her teachers lives and every one is her friend. I'm so glad she had the experience and I wasn't discouraged by the challenge of lugging 3 children into school!

Time to take down the Christmas decorations
Yes, I am THAT neighbor. I am the one who has had my Christmas wreaths still hanging from all the doors and windows. I finally convinced myself that it was time to put all things Christmas away for another 6 months. However, I would only do it if the outside temperature would rise above 40 degrees. So, that time finally arrived yesterday afternoon. I took down all the garland and door wreaths while Riley was at school. I'll need Bryan's help to get the window wreaths down over the weekend. I guess no one really wants to see the Christmas wreaths alongside my Spring/Easter decor. Oh well, I am still resisting the Christmas lights though. Bryan has taken them off the timer I set up, but they still grace the bushes. Maybe on a nice warm summer night, I'll take a glass of tea to the front yard and turn them all on again. Then I will REALLY be the talk of our neighborhood:)
Not much going on. I am going in to Riley's pre-school in a little bit to read a book, "HOP ON POP" to the class as they are studying Dr. Suess. I also get to enjoy a snack with the kids. I've been waiting awhile to observe this class and it hasn't come soon enough for me. Just yesterday, Riley arrived home with sand/cornmeal encrusted to the top of her head. She told me that a fellow student had poured it on. I then asked if she informed the teacher as that shouldn't be slipping by them. Yes, she did tell the teacher. "and what did they say?" I asked. "They said I needed a bath tonight" she explained. Well, obviously, that is the answer, but what happened to the child that poured that cup of cornmeal on my daughter's head?!?! Probably nothing. And so, I'll be observing the class today as an already scheduled time:) In the mean time, Reese will be having a friend over with his mom to play Peter Pan. She has loved Peter Pan since Disney, as does her little playmate. They have a great time together and I'm thankful for the time to go to Riley's class.
Next week, we'll be traveling down to GA to visit for a few days and take in the temperatures and familiar sights of what Spring should be like. We are really looking forward to the break and a chance to see friends and family. Riley and Reese are very excited about Grandma Ann, Max, Diesel, Brad, Lisa, (all of the pets at my brother's home), Uncle Tim, Aunt Kim, Matt and Vanessa, and of course, Cracker Barrel restaurants along the way. They would be excited about Lily too, but she is going to be MIA while we're in town. Hopefully, we could talk her in to continuing the drive NORTH after Virginia:)

A time change is a comin'
I believe the time change is in a few weeks. How do I know this you ask? Well, the "Spring Forward" time change has already been occurring in our household. My two girls have instinctively been getting out of bed at 6:30 AM instead of the normal 7:30 AM! This drives me crazy! They become loud and boisterous long before mommy is ready to handle it and it makes for a long, very long day! Yesterday, for example, Reese started a meltdown at 2:45 PM when we had to leave to go and get Riley from school. She didn't want to go, then she didn't want to get out of the car, go into school, etc. While waiting in the pick-up line, she cried and got the sympathy of all the sweet moms. I decided to ride around town for a bit, in the hope that she'd fall asleep. However, my plan was spoiled because Riley had received her Valentines Box full of goodies from school (their party had been rescheduled because school was canceled for her on 2/13 and then we had a week off for Winter break). This meant that she and Reese had to examine and divvy up all the candy while in the back seat! Oh well..... Reese did end up having a 45 minute nap while I was fixing dinner after being sent to her room for being sassy. I can't wait for the time change to actually occur!
Also, I have been asked to help promote the Beth Moore conference that is taking place here in October(Yea!). I am thrilled about this and really excited about what God is doing here in New England. Please pray for this as so many churches are not open to doing anything out of the norm for them and most have not been exposed to the women's studies by Beth Moore. We are starting to contact churches and get the word out(anyone want to make a road trip and visit that weekend?). My kids are getting over sickness and I am on the border of either getting the cold or scraping by, so please pray for my family's health. This has hindered a lot of the calling I should be doing. Charlie has also had a mystery illness that we think may be GERD or acid reflux now. We've just had a hard month or so. Thanks for all your prayers! We appreciate you!

How can it be???
So, why is it that all the maternity clothing looks sooooo cute in the stores and on all your pregnant friends until you are pregnant? All of a sudden, nothing seems as cute and stylish. This is just the same thing I run into with each pregnancy I guess. I went to the Gap and browsed their clearance area of prego clothing. Yea, same story, zippo for me. Only 6 more months to go I guess. Oh, and yes, I already feel like my belly is getting bigger and bigger daily and I'm not even at the 12 week mark yet!
I'm thinking...It would be really fun to get some feedback on baby names. So, I'm only 11 1/2 weeks pregnant, but we will find out what we're having at the 20 week appt. which will narrow that options we have by 50% :) If you would like to participate, you can either email us or publish on our blog the names you would choose for our 4th child. The only criteria is that it has to sound good with Galat. I'm totally serious about this! We have always liked the name Jack for a boy, but we have no idea what middle name we'd use or if we'll even end up using Jack. We like a ton of girls names and I'm partial to southern names, just not creative enough to come up with a great combination. Examples..... Anna Kate, Emma Claire, Annee Bess. You get the idea. So, we're wide open here folks. Any ideas? There may possibly be a prize at the end of all this if we choose the name you enter and you're the first to post/email it.......

Wow! I can't believe how long it's been.....
So sorry folks! Has it really been since December that I last posted? Well, I received a call from my dear friend Melissa (SHOUT OUT TO MY FRIEND, MELISSA :) and she informed me that she checks our blog for updates regularly and had severely missed her friend's updates:) So, I'm BACK! It has been a long, news filled month and I can't promise that I'll be able to update on everything now because my dog has his legs crossed and REALLY wants me to walk him. So, here's the run down....... I still have to post Christmas pictures. One of my children dropped our digital camera and the slide button that changes from picture taking mode to viewing/editing mode broke off. You're asking, why is this so important that she is writing about it in the blog? IT'S IMPORTANT TO ME, OKAY! my blog, I choose what to write.....continuing....So, I could not download any pictures. I finally called to see if I could have it repaired before our trip to DisneyWorld. It cost more to repair it than to buy a new camera, so not we have 2 cameras. Only one can download. So, we went to DisneyWorld (one word or two, I don't know). We went over MLK Jr weekend and it was packed. Bryan got the cushy job of traveling down by himself the week before for a work conference. I was therefore, stuck with all 3 kids on a very early morning flight on my own. Needless to say, Charlie was "that" crying child that we all hope isn't ours. Poor boy was soooooo sleepy and didn't know what to do. He was doing a lot of high pitched screaming and after he fell asleep, I felt like I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry myself. I apologized to all the passengers around me and tried to disguise myself when exiting the plane. We met my niece at the Orlando airport and she was a tremendous help on our trip. (Lily, I hope you had a fun time even though you got stuck with our family!) We enjoyed our trip and met all the princesses and characters. Pictures to come later. Upon our return, Riley announced that she was disappointed that we didn't get to ride on the spinning teacups. Next time, could you speak up while we are there?!?! Knowing her, she'll bring it up consistantly until we have another trip to Disney. (which won't be for a long while considering the cost and effort to get there)
After we returned we had a huge surprise. We found out that we are expecting our 4th child! We are still in shock! My due date is Sept. 7th, so this baby and Charlie will be 2 years apart. I've already been to the doctor and seen the baby and the heartbeat. I'm so stunned that God would give us yet another child to hold and love (when I feel like I can't even handle the ones He's already given us!). I was thinking about the first few weeks that we've had with all our children and how sweet it is when they fall asleep on your chest or in your arms. I'm so thankful to have that chance again!
After we had that surprise, we received great news about our house in Atlanta. Someone wanted to move in and rent it and most likely buy it when their house sells. They moved in the same week and we never had a lapse in time when we had to make the house payment again! Thank you God!
Next, Bryan went out of town for work this last weekend. He had a fun time in Washington, D.C. while the kids and I were home celebrating my birthday. Reese graciously allowed me to celebrate with her at Chuck E. Cheese. Doesn't everyone want a birthday party there? Reese is now a big "3" and continues to call herself the birthday girl. I told her it has to end this week as the party with Bryan's family is Sunday. How is it that when you are three, you get multiple parties with various people, but when you're an adult, you're lucky to be recognized by a restaurant giving a free meal anymore? Just an observation......
